John Divola stated that he does use editing software's to edit his images. 'Absolutely. In the last few years I've been working with a thing called a GigaPan, which is a robotic camera base and using a digital camera that incrementally photographs the scene. The guys that developed it were working on the Mars Rover camera.'

However this will be the image I will be writing about. The photographer that has taken these series of photos is called John Divola; he is an American contemporary visual artist. He currently lives and works in Riverside, CA. Divola describes himself as exploring the landscape by looking for the edge between the abstract and the specific. The physical subjects that John Divola photographs range from buildings to landscapes his concerns are conceptual: they challenge the boundaries between fiction and reality, as well as the limitations of art to describe life. These are from a series called the Zuma Series. Where he created his 'set' 'background' of these images. All the abandoned settings he found he had painted, painting geometric shapes, patterns of other unusual imagery to cause the difference of the ugly and good. The ugly capturing the image within the vandalized room and the good being the settings outside the windows. He then capturing the views from the beach, usually capturing the sky from the left rooms. He stated that he wanted to show the natural and physical / man made issues we experience. John takes his photos with different angles and perspectives causing the image to be more visually interesting. This series was taken in 1977 his photos being taken at Zumba beach. |
